Suspension - 'Level Control Not Working' Message

Chafed Ride Height Sensor Cable

MODEL
E61 (5 Series Sports Wagon)

SITUATION

"Level control not working" warning message; the air springs can be fully extended or compressed. One or more of the following fault code memory entries are stored in the EHC (air suspension) control.

Module:
0x5F8E sensor rear left

0x5F8F sensor rear right

0x5F9C sensor activity rear left

0x5F9D sensor activity rear right.

CAUSE

The ride-height sensor cable can be damaged inside the "corrugated tubing".

CORRECTION

In case of a customer complaint, visually check the cables and connectors of the ride-height sensor.

Also check the cable inside the corrugated tubing.

Cable insulation has been improved in 06/05.

PROCEDURE

^ Undo the corrugated tubing mounting.

^ Remove the cable.

^ Inspect all cables and connectors for chafing damage.

^ The line and connector must be replaced if the line or connector is damaged, corroded or loose.

^ Cut the damaged line at the grommet (body) at a distance of approximately 100 mm and replace it with the repair kit (see Parts Information).

^ Replace the ride height sensor of the damaged line and/or connector (Refer to the latest Electronic Parts Catalog for the part numbers).

^ Calibrate the vehicle ride height per Repair Instructions, RA 37 12 012

^ Initialize the Tire Pressure Monitor System per instructions provided in the Owner's Manual.
