Airbag Warning Lamp Illuminated, FC 9404

MODEL
E60 (5 Series) Vehicles produced to 8/2005

[NEW] SITUATION

The airbag warning lamp is illuminated and faults are stored, but none are currently present:

^ FC 9404 (Up-front parameter inconsistent).

The following fault codes may also be stored together with FC 9404:

^ FC 9404 + 9402 (Left up-front sensor defective)

^ FC 9404 + 9403 (Right up-front sensor defective)

^ FC 9404 + 9402 + 9403

[NEW] CAUSE

Unknown. However, the faults are unlikely to reoccur.

[NEW] PROCEDURE

In case of customer complaint, and only if the fault codes are not currently present, follow the procedure below:

Do not replace parts as instructed by the diagnosis test plan (The diagnosis test plans will be changed in a future DIS update).

^ If the 9404 fault frequency is 3 or less, and the customer has no previous complaint for this fault, delete the fault(s) and return the vehicle to the customer. Note: Most complaints will be in this category.

^ If the 9404 fault frequency is 3 or less, and the customer has had a previous complaint for this fault, check wiring and connections, and physical condition of sensors (cracks etc.). Make any necessary repairs. Update vehicle with latest Progman version - refer to B09 05 01 (Coding, Individualization and Programming), Procedure B.

^ If the 9404 fault frequency is greater than 3, and the customer has no previous complaint for this fault, check wiring and connections, and physical condition of sensors (cracks etc.). Make any necessary repairs. Update vehicle with latest Progman version - refer to B09 05 01 (Coding, Individualization and Programming), Procedure B.

^ If the 9404 fault frequency is greater than 3, and the customer has had a previous complaint for this fault, check wiring and connections. Make any necessary repairs. Replace both up-front sensors. Update vehicle with latest Progman version - refer to B09 05 01 (Coding, Individualization and Programming), Procedure B.
