SUBJECT
6HP26 Intermittently Enters the Fail-Safe Mode with CAN Faults Stored

MODEL
E65, E66 with N62TU produced from 03/2005 to 08/2006

SITUATION
The transmission may intermittently enter the emergency fail-safe mode when the vehicle is in motion. The diagnosis report indicates various CAN faults pertaining to DME communication stored in one or more modules. The following CAN faults are stored in the EGS:

CF14, CF15, CF16, CF17 "No Message from Engine Management"

CAUSE
DME software calibration sensitivity

CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis only, Reprogram and recode the entire vehicle using Progman V23.0 (Target data status: E065-06-09-520), or higher.

Defect Code 10 42 04 42 00

Labor Operation: 61 00 801 Reprogram control modules (not including CAS)
Labor Allowance: 7 FRU OR

Labor Operation: 61 00 811 Reprogram control modules including CAS)

Labor Allowance: 8 FRU

Note 1:
Should the vehicle be affected at the same time by another repair in which programming of control units is also required, programming may be claimed only once.

Note 2:
In the case where Progman requires the replacement of control modules, or additional programming because certain control modules failed to program correctly, print out the Measures Plan and Status Report/Final Report as described in the Progman programming procedure (B09 05 01), and attach these reports to the RO in the vehicle file. This additional work should use Defect Code 10 42 04 42 00 along with a Labor Operation and Labor Allowance selected from the KSD.
