Campaign - Camshaft Sensor Replacement

AFFECTED VEHICLES BEFORE CUSTOMER DELIVERY OR THE NEXT TIME THEY
ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.

SUBJECT
Service Action: Replacement of Camshaft Sensors

MODEL
E65/66 (750i/750Li) vehicles with N62TU produced from 02/01/2005 up to 03/22/2005

SITUATION
The camshaft sensors installed in the affected vehicles may generate an erroneous pulse signal during engine start-up. This could cause extended engine cranking time. In certain conditions, the engine will not start.

Improved camshaft sensors are available.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves 750i and 750Li vehicles with N62TU engines which were produced from 02/01/2005 up to 03/22/2005.

In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.





The Chassis Number Ranges listed are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

CORRECTION
On the affected vehicles, replace the four camshaft sensors, on the exhaust and the intake sides, and the sensor 0-rings. The same design (part number) of cam sensor is used on the intake and the exhaust sides.

For camshaft sensors replacement procedure~ refer to the following TIS Repair Instructions:

RA 12 14 512 (Exhaust camshaft bank 1),

RA 12 14513 (Exhaust camshaft bank 2),

RA 12 14 522 (Intake camshaft bank 1),





PARTS INFORMATION

IMPORTANT NOTE:
When ordering camshaft sensor 0-rings (PN12 14 1 748 398), be aware of the fact that the minimum shipped quantity is 25 pieces (1 bag). Do not order quantity of 4 per each repair.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service Action has been assigned code number 437. Afier the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-267) and:

a. emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1),

b. punch out code number 437 (2) printed on the label and,





c. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
