Condition for fault identification
Test condition:
Engine turning over
Terminal condition: Terminal 15=TRUE
Voltage condition:
none

Condition for fault memory entry
18 camshaft or crankshaft flanks

Action in service
Check wiring harness B, replace crankshaft sensor as
indicated

Fault effect and breakdown warning
Possible effects:
Multiple starting attempts required, engine surge, engine
stalls, minimal power loss
nmax 4000 rpm
Best case scenario: Although an emergency default program
is activated, only minor effects are apparent
Transmission reverts to operation in emergency-operation
mode

Driver information
Warning light:
MIL on in 2nd driving cycle
VVT emergency default mode (max. stroke) active
VANOS emergency default mode (spec. 126�) active
RPM sensor emergency default mode active
CC message indicates transmission fault
