Replacing Left Lambda Oxygen Control Sensor
11 78 530 - Replacing left lambda oxygen control sensor (N73)
Special tools required:
- 11 7 030 11 7 030 Socket Wrench Socket WAF 22
- 11 9 150 11 9 150 Special Wrench
Cylinders 7 to 12.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Read out DME fault memory.
- Remove automatic transmission underbody protection.
Warning!
Scalding hazard!
Only perform these tasks after the exhaust system has cooled down.
Plug connection (1), cylinders 1 to 6.
Plug connection (3), cylinders 7 to 12.
Unlock and detach plug connection (3).
Unclip oxygen control sensor cable.
Installation:
Pay attention to cable routing of Lambda control sensor.
Remove oxygen control sensor (4) with special tools 11 7 030 11 7 030 Socket Wrench Socket WAF 22 and 11 9 150 11 9 150 Special Wrench.
Installation:
When using special tools 11 7 030 11 7 030 Socket Wrench Socket WAF 22 and 11 9 150 11 9 150 Special Wrench, 47 Nm on torque wrench scale corresponds to an actual tightening torque of 50 Nm.
If an oxygen control sensor is reused, apply a thin and even coat of Never-Seez(R) compound (refer to BMW Parts Service) to the thread only.
The part of the the oxygen control sensor which projects into the exhaust system branch (sensor ceramic) must not be cleaned or come into contact with lubricant.
Check function of DME.
