SUBJECT
Side View Mirror Heating Operation
MODEL
The following vehicles have side view mirrors with LIN-bus technology:
E46/3 and E46/4 (3 Series Sports Wagon and Sedan) produced from 3/03
E46/2 and E46/C (3 Series Coupe and Convertible) produced from 9/03
E83 (X3 SAV) from start of production
[NEW] The E85 (Z4) has been removed from the affected model list.
SITUATION
The side view mirrors do not heat after the ignition is turned on.
CAUSE
Change in mirror heating operation for vehicles produced with LIN -bus side view mirrors.
CORRECTION
Verify the mirror operating temperature.
PROCEDURE
Do not replace any parts until the operating temperatures listed below are verified.
Mirror heating without wiper operation: Mirror heating with wiper operation:
Below 41� F: 100% (continuous heating) Below 41� F: 100% (continuous heating)
Above 41� F: 0% (no heating) From 41� F to 50� F: 75%
From 50� F to 59� F: 50%
From 59� F to 68� F: 25%
Above 68� F: 0% (no heating)
