SUBJECT
Window Regulator Not Working or Noisy
MODEL
E83 (X3) up to 04/06
SITUATION
The customer may complain of a power window that will not operate or is noisy during operation.
CAUSE
The white plastic slider on the window regulator may be damaged.
CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis, replace the damaged window regulator slider with the updated slider.
The updated slider, which was not available previously, is an improved part, made from a different material.
PROCEDURE
Remove the damaged window regulator according to repair instruction RA 51 33 000 (Front) or
RA 51 37 000 (Rear)
If only the white plastic slider is damaged, replace it by using the following instructions. If any other damage to the regulator exists, the entire regulator must be replaced.
Note:
The front window has 2 sliders and these should be replaced in pairs
Lay the regulator on a flat surface with the slider[s] (1) facing upward. Rotate the slider on the regulator rail without removing it from the rail.
While holding the slider in the rotated position, press
the cable (2) away from the slider to remove it from
the retainer.
Install the updated slider by positioning the slider (1)
on the rail (2) adjacent to the drive lug on the cable (3).
Use both index fingers to press the cable into the
retainer.
Check to make sure that both the cable and drive lug
are fully seated in the indentation of the slider (1).
Reinstall the window regulator and verify proper operation.

Refer to KSD for applicable labor operations and allowances for Remove and Install of window regulators.
An additional work allowance of 2 FRUs (per front window regulator) and 1 FRU (per rear window regulator) may be added for the removal and installation of the slider[s].
