Exhaust System: Service and Repair

18 21 051 Replacing all exhaust suspensions (M62, M54)
Special tools required:

^ 312 220

Warning:
Scalding hazard!
Only perform these tasks after exhaust system has cooled down.

Note: :Rubber mounts are colored differently.
^ Red (M62) or gray (M54): for rubber mount of rear muffler on rear axle carrier
^ Black: all other rubber mounts
Mixing up the rubber mounts will alter the vibration response of the exhaust system.

Support exhaust system at intermediate muffler with special tool 312 220.





Clip cover (1) out of retainers (2).





Press cover (1) downwards.
Release screws (2) on rubber mount for rear muffler on left and right.





Detach rubber mount (1) from holder (2).





Release screws (1) on rubber mount for rear muffler on rear axle carrier on left and right.
Detach rubber mount from holder.
Replace rubber mounts on rear muffler.

Note: :Rubber mount for rear muffler on rear axle carrier is red.

Mixing up the rubber mounts will alter the vibration response of the exhaust system.








Release screws (1) of rubber mounts for intermediate muffler.
Detach rubber mount from holder.
Replace rubber mounts on intermediate muffler.





Release screws (3) on rubber mount.
Detach rubber mount from holder.
Replace rubber mounts on exhaust pipe.
