SUBJECT
E53 (X5) 3.0 MS43 Fault Codes 211, 227 and 228 stored

MODEL
E53 (X5) with M54

SITUATION
Engine Failsafe Warning and "Service Engine Soon" light illuminated.

The following fault codes are stored in the DME:

^ 211 (D3) Idle valve stuck mechanically,

^ 227 (E3) Fuel trim bank1,

^ 228 (E4) Fuel trim bank 2.

Also may be accompanied by:

^ DSC fault 76 CAN torque reduction,

^ EGS 145 (91) DME/DDE does not fulfill torque request.

Vehicle will also have rich additive and multiplicative values (-0.02ms and -8.00%)

CAUSE
Poor connection in engine wiring harness.

PROCEDURE
On a customer complaint basis only, replace engine wiring harness PN 12 51 7 503 611, or PN 12 51 7 513 548, or PN 12 51 7 531 986. To determine a correct harness needed, verify the part number on a silver and black tag on the harness near an air mass meter. Reprogram the DME with the current version of Progman. The improved software was introduced since DIS CD V38.
