Steering Angle Sensor: Service and Repair


Removing and installing or replacing steering angle sensor

Caution:
The steering angle sensor must be coded if it has been replaced. A steering angle offset for Electronic Damper Control/Dynamic Stability Control must then be carried out.





Disconnect and connect battery.
Unfasten screws.
Disconnect gong plug and On-Board Diagnosis socket and remove trim.





Remove clamping bolt.

Caution:
To avoid damaging the contact ring in the steering column when the steering wheel is turned:

Move steering wheel to straight-ahead position and remove ignition key.
Press down on steering spindle.

Installation:
Clamping screw must be located in retaining groove of upper steering spindle.
Replace self-locking nut.
Tightening torque:
- Universal joint/coupling to steering gear/steering spindle
- Steel Joint
- M8 10.9 24 Nm
- Aluminum Joint
- M8 10.9 28 Nm
Note: Replace Clamping Screw






Unfasten cable connector.
Remove steering angle sensor (1) from steering spindle.

Installation:
Pin for securing rotation (2) must engage in steering angle sensor (1).

Caution:
Secure cable with cable tie so that it is not tensioned when steering column is extended and retracted.
