41 62 030 Fitting Rear Lid Upper Section
NOTE:
- Gap dimensions E53 serve as basis for fitting work.
- Rear lid lower section must be fitted before upper section.
- Make unpainted surfaces visible by also moving the hinges. Touch these up in the appropriate colour.
- Do not damage adjoining body parts.
Release screws (1) on hinge.
Fit rear lid upper section according to specified gap dimension.
If adjustment range is not enough, also slacken screws (2).
Tighten screws after adjustment.
NOTE: If necessary, slacken screws of lock striker in rear lid lower section.
Adjust lock striker and tighten screws.
When rear lid upper section is closed, lock striker must not make contact with or brush against rear lid lock. Look out for scratches.
Check buffer stops in body on left and right for damage and replace if necessary.
Version up to 12/05:
Turn screw in buffer stop to adjust height of rear lid upper section.
Version from 12/05:
Buffer stops (1) are spring-mounted.
Buffer stops (1) must not be adjusted.
Buffer stops (1) can be retrospectively replaced.
Version up to 12/05:
Insert strip of paper between rear lid upper section and buffer stop. Paper strip must be jammed but not tear off.
Insufficient contact pressure will result in rattling noises while excessive pressure will cause the rear lid upper section to close poorly.

Test no longer necessary.
