Campaign - Fuel Pump Wiring Harness Routing

PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES BEFORE CUSTOMER DELIVERY OR THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.

SUBJECT
Service Action: Z4 M roadster/coupe- Re-routing of Fuel Pump Wiring Harness

MODEL
E85, E86; Z4 M roadster/coupe with S54 from 01/10/06 up to 09/08/06

SITUATION
The electric fuel pump (EKP) wiring harness may have been pinched by the battery tray during an assembly process. As a result, insulation of the signal line may get chaffed causing an erratic fuel pump operation.

CORRECTION
Re-route the fuel pump signal wiring harness according to the attached procedure.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service action involves Z4 M roadster and Z4 M coupe vehicles with S54 engines which were produced from 01/10/06 up 09/08/06.

In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

PROCEDURE
1. Remove battery and the battery tray.

2. Check the position of the EKP signal line (1). This illustration shows incorrect routing of the harness.





3. Check for any signs of wear on the harness insulation, and repair if needed using electrical insulation tape.





4. Route the EKP signal harness (1) as shown on this illustration and secure it to the trunk floor with a strip of electrical insulation tape (2).





5. Reinstall previously removed components.

NOTE:
Make sure that plastic ventilation hose (1) is attached to a nipple (2) at the back of the battery.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service action has been assigned code number 479 After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-295) and:

a. emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);

b. punch out code number 479 printed on the label and,





c. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
