SUBJECT
Power Window Motor Availability and Replacement

MODEL
E63, E64 (6 Series) produced from 9/2006

SITUATION
Replacement power window motors (P/N 67 62 6 981 143/144) for E63, E64 6 Series cars produced from 9/2006 may currently be unavailable. As an interim solution, until spare parts are in stock, a procedure has been developed to repair these vehicles. This procedure requires using and modifying a different window motor.

This situation applies to electrical related problems with the window motor assembly. If the gear box secured to the motor is damaged, this procedure can not be used.

PROCEDURE

1. Check parts availability for the desired part which is called for in the electronic parts catalog (EPC). If the part is in stock, it should be used as opposed to utilizing the following procedure.

2. Obtain the appropriate window motor (left or right) used on an E60 for 9/06 and later production. Only the side that has failed should be replaced.

3. Remove the four T25 screws that secure the motor to the gearbox on the defective motor assembly.

4. Carefully remove the motor with the electrical connector, from the gear box.

5. Rotate the external gear on the gear box to ensure that it rotates freely and is not damaged.

6. Remove the motor and electrical connector from the E60 window motor in the same manner performed in steps 3 and 4. These two parts (motor & electrical connector) should not be separated from each other while removing them from the gear box.

7. Secure the new motor and electrical connector to the original gearbox, while making sure these two parts are not separated..

8. Reinstall the motor assembly into the vehicle.

9. Initialize the window and ensure proper functionality.
