SUBJECT

MODEL
E60 (M5) with GS7S47BG SMGIII transmission, produced up to [NEW] 09/08
E63, E64 (M6) with GS7S47BG SMGIII transmission, produced up to [NEW] 09/08
SITUATION
The customer may complain that intermittently, the gear cannot be selected during the upshift or downshift. The desired (intended) gear display flashes in the instrument cluster and the transmission selects the next available gear. The "skipped" gear will not be available (selectable) until the ignition is cycled (off and on again).
Any combination of the following fault codes may be stored in the SMG control unit (depending on the blocked gear occurrence):
- 4F82 - Gearbox blocked, 1/R
- 4F83 - Gearbox blocked, 3/5
- 4F84 - Gearbox blocked, 7/6
- 4F85 - Gearbox blocked, 4/2
In most cases, the fault codes 4F80 (Gearbox problem) and F2 (Gearbox; gear jump) are also stored in the SMG hydraulic, together with the gear blocking faults.
CAUSE
SMG software error
