SUBJECT
Banging Noise from Air Conditioner Compressor

MODEL
E92 (3 Series) with N54 vehicles produced up to February 28, 2007

SITUATION
The customer complains of a banging noise from the air conditioning compressor.

CAUSE
The 3 mounting bolts for the compressor are too long and bottom out.

PROCEDURE
On a customer complaint basis only, replace the M8x90 bolts on the air conditioning compressor with shorter M8x85 bolts.

Tighten the new bolts to 21 Nm.

[NEW] If the procedure outlined in this service information does not repair the noise, continue troubleshooting using the BMW diagnosis system via the "symptom selection" path. Refer to SI B64 04 07 for further information.
