Easy Entry Feature is Inoperative
MODEL
E92 (3 Series Coupe) produced up to 9/2007
SITUATION
The easy entry feature of the front seats is inoperative. Pulling the easy entry release handle does not release the seatback locking mechanism.
CAUSE
The Bowden cable has pulled away from the release mechanism.
CORRECTION
Reattach the Bowden cable and properly secure it to the backrest frame.
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the trim panel on the back of the seat backrest per repair instruction RA 52 13 198.
2. Reattach the Bowden cable (1) to the release mechanism.
3. Secure the Bowden cable (1) on the outboard side of the seat to the seat frame (2) with a wire tie (3). The cable should be secured to the frame as far outboard as possible, as shown in the illustration.
4. Secure the Bowden cable on the inboard side of the seat (1) to the vertical portion of the seat frame (2) with a wire tie (3).
5. Install the backrest trim cover and verify proper easy entry operation.
