SUBJECT
Active Front Steering (AFS) Warning Lamp; Fault Code 6141 stored

MODEL
E60 with option code SA217 Active Front Steering, produced from 03/07 to 09/07

E70 with option code SA217 Active Front Steering, produced from 10/06 to 09/07

SITUATION
The Active Front Steering (AFS) warning lamp is illuminated. The following fault code is stored in the AFS control module:

6141 - Steering angle model monitoring (cumulative)

CAUSE
AFS software calibration error

CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis only

Program and code the vehicle using the most recent Progman version to the following target data status:

E60 and E61: E060-07-09-520 or later

E70: E070-07-09-520 or later.

Refer to SI B09 05 01 (Coding, Individualization and Programming). Note that Progman will automatically reprogram all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

DVD V52 will contain improved diagnostics for this fault code entry. Once the tester software is available, run the applicable test module and follow its recommendations.

Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Note 1:
Should the vehicle be affected at the same time by another repair in which the programming of control units is also required, programming may only be claimed once.

Note 2:
In the case where Progman requires the replacement of control modules or additional programming because certain control modules failed to program correctly, print out the Measures Plan and Status Report/Final Report as described in the Progman programming procedure (B09 05 01). Attach these reports to the RO in the vehicle file. This additional work should use Defect Code 10 42 30 59 00, along with a Labor Operation and Labor Allowance selected from the KSD.
