SUBJECT
CD Changer Is Inoperative; Magazine Is Jammed

MODEL
E60, E61* (5 Series)

E63, E64* (6 Series)

From 02/28/2007 to 04/01/2008

*Only with CD changer (option 672)

SITUATION
The CD changer in the glove box is inoperative (not selectable in the Entertainment menu), and the magazine is jammed (will not release).

CAUSE
The CDs in the CD magazine are jammed and can't be selected because the CD magazine doesn't fit properly.

CORRECTION
Do not replace the CD changer!
Replace the CD magazine only.

PROCEDURE
- Use special tool P/N 83 30 0 495 239 (CD Magazine Eject Tool) to remove the magazine and replace the CD magazine, refer to SI B04 14 05.

- Remove all CDs from the CD magazine.

- Check whether there are still CDs in the CD changer drive. If so, remove them as well.

- Install an updated CD magazine (new part number).

- Recheck correct operation:

- Fill the CD magazine with CDs.

- Insert the CD magazine into the CD changer.

- Wait for the CD check to run through.

- Check whether the CDs in the CD magazine are shown in the display.

- Select and play back the CDs.

NOTE:
Scrap the defective CD magazine.
