Technical Service
PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES BEFORE CUSTOMER DELIVERY OR THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.
SUBJECT:
Voluntary Emissions Recall 07E-A04: BMW ALPINA B7-Reprogram Vehicle (DME)
MODEL
BMW ALPINA B7 produced 11/10/2006 to 07/25/2007
SITUATION
The DME programming, as originally installed, may cause the required OBD diagnostic test not to run to completion.
This diagnostic software error would not cause any driveability problems.
In order to remedy this situation, BMW is conducting a Voluntary Emissions Recall Campaign to reprogram the DME control module on all affected vehicles. With the completion of this campaign, the software in the vehicle's control units will be updated as described in (Coding, Individualization, Programming) Procedure B.
A copy of the customer letter is shown in this bulletin.
AFFECTED VEHICLES:
This Recall Campaign involves Alpina B7 vehicles with N62 engines which were produced from 11/10/2006 to 07/25/2007.
In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Recall Campaign, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
The Chassis Number Ranges shown above are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.
CORRECTION
On the affected vehicles, update and recode the complete vehicle as per SI B09 05 01 (Coding, Individualization, Programming) Procedure B using the most current version of Progman.
Important:
The improved DME software was introduced in integration level (data status E065-07-09-520).
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
After the vehicle has been checked and corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-360) and with a ball point pen print your dealer code (5 digits) on the Recall Completion Label (see illustration). Peel the label from its backing and affix it to the right (passenger) rear side of the hood in the engine compartment, close to windshield.
Additional labels (strip of 5) may be ordered on TIS.
For California centers only: It is required by the California Code of Regulations that an executed orange "Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction" certificate (SD92-084, see illustration) be provided to each customer (for vehicles registered in the state of California) once the Recall on their vehicle has been completed.
Note:
Additional labels can be ordered on line at BMW TIS.
