84 11 627 - Removing and installing/replacing telematic control unit (TCU) (option SA633/SA638/SA639/SA664)





Important!
Replacement with option SA638/SA664:
- Carry out programming/coding Programming and Relearning

- If necessary, carry out coupling procedure

Replacement with option SA633/SA639:
- Carry out programming/coding Programming and Relearning

- Via Diagnosis and Information System (DIS):

- Service functions

- Start subsequent assessment

Replacement with option SA633/SA638/SA639/SA664:
- Remove sticker (Bluetooth passkey) from front of TCU and stick to Service Booklet insert





Important!
Read and comply with notes on protection against electrostatic damage (ESD protection) 61 35 ... Notes on ESD Protection (Electro Static Discharge).





Note:
Follow instructions for handling fiber optic cables 61 00 ... Notes on Handling Optical Fibers.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Disconnect battery negative lead Instructions for Disconnecting and Connecting Battery

- Remove and install left luggage compartment wheel arch trim .





Disconnect plug connection (1, 2).
Release screws (3) and remove TCU (4).

Installation Note:
Note color coding of antenna plugs.





Replace 54-pin plug housing* with a new one.
* Sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service
Raise lock (1) on housing (2).
Push both contact carriers (3) from rear out of housing.





Replacement with option SA633 or SA639/SA664 (build date 03/05-09/06):
Connect adapter leads* (1) between main wiring harness (2) and TCU (3).
* Sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service
Resecure TCU (3).

Installation Note:
Secure protruding lead parts with suitable adhesive tape in order to prevent rattling noises.
