SUBJECT
Creaking Noise from the Center Armrest

MODEL
E82, E88 (1 Series) produced up to 11/2008

SITUATION
A creaking or squeaking noise can be heard from the center armrest when loads are applied to it, such as when the customer moves his or her arm on the armrest.

CAUSE
Relative movement between the armrest cover and the console housing

CORRECTION
Apply an anti-creaking lubricant to the affected surface.

Do not replace any parts, as that will not provide a solution.

PROCEDURE

1. Open the upper lid of the center armrest.





2. Identify the contact areas (arrows) on the armrest cover, where it comes into contact with the console housing when the cover is closed.

3. Apply the anti-creaking lubricant to the entire length of the inside contact surface of the armrest cover. This lubricant should be applied to both the plastic contact point and the adjacent upholstered cover.
