SUBJECT
Window Short-drop or Anti-trap Malfunctions

MODEL
E82, E88 (1 Series) produced up to April 4, 2009

SITUATION

One of the following conditions may be intermittently present, but no relevant faults are stored:

1. When opening the door, the window does not short drop and contacts the surrounding window trim.

2. The anti-trap feature of the window activates when no obstruction is present.

3. The window is intermittently or permanently inoperative.

CAUSE
Software error in the Footwell Module (FRM)

CORRECTION
A software update and in some cases a window motor replacement is necessary.

[NEW] PROCEDURE

1. Program and code the vehicle with the most recent Progman version (target data status E89x-09-06-510 or later). Refer to SI B09 05 01 (Coding, Individualization and Programming), Procedure B.

The current version of ISTA/P may be used, as it will include this update.

Note that Progman or ISTA/P will automatically reprogram all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

2. Initialize the windows per the ISTA test plan "Initialize power windows" or using Repair Instruction REP 51 33...

3. Test the complete function of the windows.

^ If functioning properly, no additional actions are necessary

^ If any of the problems persist, replace the affected power window motor or motors per Repair Instruction REP 51 33 000 and then initialize the windows again.
