SUBJECT
Difficulty Removing Fuel Cap from Fuel Filler (PZEV Only)

MODEL
E90, E92, and E93 (3 Series) - all with N51 engine produced up to 9/5/2009

SITUATION

The customer complains that the fuel cap (P/N 16 11 6 756 772) cannot be easily removed when attempting to refill the vehicle with fuel. The fuel cap may bind to the filler neck, and the lower section (green section) may break away.

This does not cause any safety-related issues; P/N 16 11 6 756 772 (fuel cap) does not leak fuel or fuel vapor and should not be replaced for intermittent evaporative system leakage.

PROCEDURE

If this situation is encountered, replace the fuel cap using P/N 16 11 7 222 391. Do not replace the fuel filler pipe for this complaint.
