51 32 154 Adjusting Left or Right Front Side Window

51 32 154 Adjusting Left Or Right Front Side Window

Special tools required:

Prerequisite:
- Vehicle must be standing on its wheels on a level floor
- Front door correctly adjusted to fit

IMPORTANT: When closing, the door window glass must not jam on the trim strip in any area of the window (window glass breakage).

If necessary, incoming check:
Prior to any adjusting procedure perform incoming check:

NOTE:
Incoming check must be carried out with the weather strip fitted.
- Denormalize power window
- Measure retraction depths with special tool 51 3 080.
- 51 0 341 Insert special tool in rotary striker and close rotary striker
- 51 0 342 Measure preload with special tool
- Initialize power window regulators

Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Denormalize power window
- Remove outer weather strip (not for checking preload)

Ideal adjustment, longitudinal direction:
Open door window.
Fit special tool 51 0 320 in front door and press back until limit position. Tool must rest on door and have enough clearance along guide (1) in area (A).

NOTE: Special tool 51 0 321 left or 51 0 322 right.

Ideal adjustment, retraction depth:
- Open side window
- Attach special tool 51 3 080 to door window glass
- Close front door and door window
- Measure retraction depth

NOTE: 2 items of special tool 51 3 080 are required for adjustment of retraction depths.

Measure and if necessary adjust retraction depth (C) in areas (A and B).
Retraction depth (C):
A = 5 ±1 mm
Distance between measuring point and mirror triangle = 30 mm
B = 5 ±1 mm
Distance between measuring point and window edge = 70 mm

IMPORTANT: Front door must open and close without the door window glass touching the roof trim strip.

Mask special tool 51 3 310 in area A with fabric adhesive tape. Hold suitable foil between window glass and tool. (Risk of damage to paint and window glass)

Adjusting longitudinal direction/retraction depth:
Slacken screws (1) with special
tool 51 3 310 until door window glass can just be moved.

Mount special tool 51 3 010 to door window glass (1).
Slide door window glass (1) 51 0 320up against limit position of special tool.
Adjust retraction depth of door window (1) in area of A-pillar and B-pillar.

NOTE: Door window glass must rest against special tool 51 0 320(forward/back adjustment) during adjustment of retraction depth.

Installation note:
The specified tightening torque 51 32 1AZ (MDE) is reduced when using special tool 51 3 310. Depending on the torque wrench used, this must be calculated in accordance with the adjacent overview:
MDE = Torque to be set
MDV = Prescribed torque (without special tool)
lj = Standard adjustment length with adjusting tool
l1 = Effective length of torque wrench
12 = Inside dimension of adjusting tool
lw = Inside dimension of insertion tool
(here lw = 145 mm)

NOTE: If screwing is performed from the inside of the door (removed door trim panel), the tightening torque to be set 51 32 1AZ (without special tool) must be observed.

Tighten down screws (1) with special tool 51 3 310.
Tightening torque 51 32 1AZ.
Remove special tool 51 3 010 from door window glass.
51 0 320Open door window and remove special tool.

Upper edge of door window glass (1) must be adjusted parallel to contour (2) of gutter strip.
Gaskets on A-pillar and on retractable hardtop must not be damaged.
When the door window glass is retracted into the gaskets, the gaskets must not distorted.

Ideal setting, preload:

NOTE: Pre-tension can be checked with or without weatherstrip. Pre-tension is 1.0 mm less with weather strip. Magnet in special tool 51 0 341 creates the correct door window glass pre-tension on the seal system for measurement. No force must be exerted on the door or door window glass during measurement.

Insert special tool 51 0 341 in rotary striker of door lock and close rotary striker manually. Carefully close door.

Slide special tool 51 0 342 at distance (B) to door window glass side edge into seal (1) and measure dimension (A) to outside edge of door window glass (2).
Dimension (A) with weather strip:
A = 41 ±1.5 mm
Dimension (A) without weather strip:
A = 42 ±1.5 mm
B = 10 mm

Adjusting pretension:
Slacken nut (3) with reversible ratchet (2) of special tool 51 3 300 (consisting of 51 3 301, and 51 3 302).
Turn knob (1) on special tool 51 3 300 to turn bolt (4) and thereby alter the pretension.
Tighten nut (3).
Tightening torque 51 33 1AZ.
Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.

NOTE:
After completing adjusting procedure, it is essential to initialize the power windows.
Checking run-in of door window glass:
Door window glass must strike the inside of the gasket.
