SUBJECT
Enabling Codes (FSC) Required After CIC Replacement

MODEL
E82, E88 *(1 Series)
E90, E91, E92, E93 *(3 Series)

*with option 609 (Navigation System Professional)

Vehicles from September 2008 onward

SITUATION
After replacing the Car Information Computer (CIC), the following functions are inoperative:

^ Navigation System

^ Voice Recognition System

CAUSE
Enabling codes (FSC) are required to activate the navigation and voice recognition systems.

PROCEDURE

NOTE:
If, during the course of diagnosis, a CIC needs to be replaced, the only part that should be installed is a new part that has not been previously installed in a vehicle. The CIC enabling codes are VIN-specific and if installed in another vehicle, the Navigation System and the Voice Recognition System (SVS) will not function. Do not swap parts from donor vehicles.

^ In the EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog), always order the three enabling codes together with a replacement CIC:

^ CIC Navigation Enabler Release Code (to activate Release Code functionality)

^ CIC Navigation Application Release Code (to activate the navigation function)

^ CIC Voice Repair Release Code (to activate voice control SA620)

These three enabling codes will be supplied via ASAP.

^ Download the enabling codes on ASAP.

NOTE:
The enabling codes that are downloaded via ASAP are in a compressed file format. The file must be uncompressed, and the contents copied to the root directory (not in a folder) of a blank formatted floppy disk, on a USB or burned to a CD.

^ Load the Release Codes when prompted by Progman or ISTA/P.
