Technical Service
SUBJECT
Driver Adaptive Headlight Moves to Full Left Stop
MODEL
E90 (3 Series)
Only affects vehicles produced with option code SA 522 (Xenon light) and SA 524 (Adaptive Headlights)
SITUATION
The driver's side adaptive headlight moves to the full left stop when the engine is started.
CAUSE
Option code SA 08S4 (Decoding Variable Light Distribution) is missing from the vehicle order. This problem occurs afier the FRM (Footwell Module) has been replaced or recoded with ISTA/P.
PROCEDURE
1. Perform a vehicle test and troubleshoot any faults that are identified in ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application) related to the headlights. This is important because faults in the system can produce the same situation as described in this Service Information bulletin.
2. Check the vehicle order in ISTA by selecting the "Operations Report" tab and see if option code 08S4 is part of the vehicle order.
3. If option code 08S4 is missing from the vehicle order, submit a PuMA case with the subject "E90 Xenon Light B63 01 11".
4. The TSE (Technical Support Engineer) will verify the vehicle order is not correct, and, if needed attach a modified vehicle order to the PuMA case along with the IBAC code for ISTA/P.
5. Adapt the new vehicle order using ISTA/P
6. Perform complete coding of the vehicle using ISTA/P.
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.
