51 31 200 - Removing and installing/replacing rear window
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove rear spoiler 51 71 412 Removing and Installing Rear Spoiler
- Disconnect all plug connections on aerial/antenna amplifier Service and Repair
Feed out rubber grommet (1) on left/right with cable.
Note:
This work step must be carried out with a second person assisting.
Slacken nuts (1) on left/right.
If shims (2) are in place, remove them and make a note of their number and positions.
Release nuts (1) on left/right and remove rear window.
Set rear window down on a clean surface.
Important!
The rear window must not be pulled or lifted by its plugs, wires or foil conductor (risk of damage).
Installation:
Install rear window (1) and fix in place with nuts (2).
Check gap dimensions of rear window.
If necessary, adjust rear window 51 31 201 Adjusting Rear Window.
Tightening torque 51 31 1AZ 51 31 Front and Rear Window.
Replacement (51 31 221 and 51 31 231):
Note:
The following assembly work steps are dependent on the vehicle equipment specification and must be adapted accordingly.
For this reason, the required work steps may differ from the work steps shown here.
- Remove aerial/antenna amplifier Service and Repair
- Remove pivot bearing for rear window wiper 61 62 090 Removing and Installing/Replacing Shaft Bearing for Rear Window Wiper (Touring)
- If necessary, modify retaining elements on rear spoiler 51 71 412 Removing and Installing Rear Spoiler
Warning!
In event of broken rear window:
Remove all glass splinters, also from underneath seats.
Check seat belts:
- Condition of seatbelt strap
- Function of reel mechanism
- Belt interlock
- Belt buckle
