AFFECTED VEHICLES THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.

SUBJECT
Service Action: HD Radio Activation

MODEL
E60, E61 *(5 Series)

*with option 609 (NAVIGATION SYSTEM PROFESSIONAL, CIC)

All vehicles produced from March 2009 to April 2009

SITUATION
The HD radio or IBOC Radio mode is inoperative, although the vehicle is equipped with a Hybrid-Digital (HD) Radio integrated in the CIC.

CAUSE
Option 653 (HD Radio) is missing from the Vehicle Order (VO).

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves E60 and E61 (5 Series, Model Year 2010) vehicles which were produced from March 2009 to April 2009.

In order to determine whether a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, refer to the chassis numbers listed in the attachment, B651809VIN # List.

Note:
The vehicles affected by this Service Action will not appear on DCS Vehicle History Inquiry Reports.

CORRECTION
Check for the presence of a Service Action label on the driver's side B-pillar.

If a label is present with code number 541 punched out, no further work is needed.

If this code is not punched out or if no service action label is present, proceed as follows:

1. Submit a PuMA case to obtain a new Vehicle Order (VO) that contains option 653, as well as an Internet BAsed Calculation (IBAC) code to enable programming the TCU.

IMPORTANT:
Include "B651809 HD Radio Activation" in the subject line of the PuMA case.

2. After receiving the new VO, upload the new codes into the vehicle and perform a complete vehicle encoding, using ISTA/P 2.33.3 or higher.

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service Action has been assigned code number 541. After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-366) and:

A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);

B. Punch out code number 541 (2), printed on the label;

C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
