PROCEDURE

1. Compare the vehicle I-Level data status to the chart below, based on the model vehicle.

Model I-Level Vehicle Data Status

E60 and E60 with N52K or N54 engine E060-08-09-520

E82 and E83 (1 Series) with N52K and N54 engine E89x-08-09-520

E83 (X3) only:
The latest MY07/MY08 X3 DME software calibration can be identified as listed below:

^ Part number, programmed control module 7593826 or higher

^ Program version - 0049RKOMG70S

^ Calibration ID 1 - 7587166

^ Calibration ID 2 - 7593827

All models: If the vehicle data status is not equal to or greater than the level identified above, then the vehicle will need to be programmed using the most recent version of ISTA/P. If the vehicle software level (X3 DME program number) is equal to or greater than the level identified above, then continue with the next step.

2. Regardless of whether the vehicle has been recently programmed, perform the DMTL Test Plan to ensure that no leaks are present in the evaporation system. If no leaks are found, then the vehicle may be retuned to the customer. If a leak is detected, work through the test plan to determine its location. Refer to SI B16 01 07 for troubleshooting procedures, using the VACUTECreg; Smoke Machine 625-522B-BMW.

Note:
Do not replace the gas cap unless a leak is clearly found, using the VACUTECreg; Smoke Machine 625-522B-BMW.
