SUBJECT
Automatic Trunk Lid Does Not Close Properly

MODEL
F01, F02 (7 Series) produced up to 3/2009 and equipped with automatic trunk lid operation (SA 316)

SITUATION
Intermittently, the automatic trunk lid (HKL) will not close properly. When the automatic close button on the trunk lid is pressed, the trunk lid will begin closing and then reopen, just before it reaches the end
of travel.

Closing the trunk manually will allow it to properly latch closed.

No relevant fault codes are stored.

CAUSE
Software error in the HKL control unit

PROCEDURE
It is not necessary to replace any parts.

Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.33.1 or later. This version of ISTA/P is expected to be available in April 2009.

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
