Safety Functions
Seat Calibration
Seat calibration includes:
- Learning the mechanical end stops to determine the position of the seat in relation to the vehicle environment (calibration)
- Adjusting stiff movement for force limitation (adaptation)
Important notes
- The anti-trapping mechanism is not active during seat calibration.
- The power supply must be stable. Otherwise, all the seat calibrations might be deleted. This can also occur during normal seat operation and a low battery level.
- Calibration is only necessary in the event of control module replacement, not after programming.
Standardization
The calibration can be carried out on both mechanical end stops. Depending on the function, the necessary calibrations can differ. Seat calibration can be carried out by means of a diagnosis job or manual seat adjustment.
For rear seats, the following adjustments can be calibrated via the reset button:
- Seat fore/aft adjustment
- Seat angle adjustment
- Seat angle adjustment
- Headrest adjustment
- Headrest height adjustment
Calibration of the seat is necessary for the following functions:
- Position output of forward / back adjustment of the seat to the crash safety module ACSM (man or woman)
- Data output to the crash data memory (obligatory in US version)
- Personal Profile
- Characteristic maps
Position output of forward / back adjustment of the seat
The calibration of the forward / back adjustment of the seat is relevant to safety. For the position handover to the ACSM control module, the distance of the seat to the front mechanical limit position is evaluated. If the current position of the forward / back adjustment of the seat is before or on the codable value ("Schwelle_von_vorn"), the seat module detects a position in the front area.
If the current position of the forward / back adjustment of the seat is behind the codable value ("Schwelle_von_vorn"), the seat module detects a position in the rear area. After successful calibration, the adjustment counter is set to 0.
After 2800 adjustments, a Check Control message is issued for the required calibration. After 3000 adjustments, the calibration is cancelled. A fault memory entry is created in the seat module and in the Crash Safety Module.
Adaptation
During the adaptation, the mechanical resistances of the forward / back adjustment of the seat across the entire adjusting path forward and back are written into a characteristic map. This enables detection of obstacles during forward / back adjustment of the seat and the adjustment is cancelled. In the case of a seat without adaptation, the cutoff threshold is 50% higher.
Execution of seat calibration
The calibration can be carried out manually as follows:
- via seat adjustment
- via service function: Body -> Safety functions -> Calibration of seat adjustment
Manual calibration
If there is a Check Control message, the customer can calibrate the forward / back adjustment of the seat by adjusting the seat in the mechanical end stop. The switch must be operated until the adjustment is deactivated by the control module.
Calibration via diagnosis
In Service, the calibration must generally be executed per diagnosis, as the required parameters of the seat are calibrated and adapted depending on the equipment version.
Calibration functions
Requirements for seat calibration
- Calibration must be carried out while the seat is fitted.
- The adjustment must be completed without disturbances from outside (e.g. impacts caused by persons, seated persons)
- A protective film or other protective material must not inhibit or falsify the sequence
- There must be no fault in the vehicle network (e.g. engine start).
- No other adjustment may be carried out during the sequence.
No liability can be accepted for printing or other faults. Subject to changes of a technical nature
