SUBJECT
High-beam Assistant (FLA): Erratic Operation

MODEL
F01, F02 (7 Series) produced up to March 1, 2009

Vehicles with High-beam Assistant (option 5AC) and Lane Departure Warning (option 5AD)

SITUATION
The High-beam Assistant may be seen to operate as follows:

^ Random switching between high and low beams in fog

^ Intermittent late recognition of approaching vehicles

^ Switching to low beam due to reflections from road signs and reflectors

^ Premature dipping in brightly lit zones and built-up areas.

CAUSE
KAFAS (Camera-based driver assistance system) control module software

CORRECTION
Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.33.1 or later.

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

Note that FLA is a driver assistance system and, depending on the road conditions and environment, may not always respond exactly as the driver would expect.
