Technical Service
SUBJECT
Headlamp Flashes Several Times, Then Switches Off
MODEL
F01, F02 (7 Series) produced up to January 15, 2009
SITUATION
When the low beam headlamps are switched on, or after starting the engine, one of the xenon low beam headlamps flashes several times, and then intermittently switches off. A low beam headlamp warning message is displayed in the Check Control, and a corresponding fault (800F2E or 800F2F) is set in the Footwell Module (FRM3).
This fault only occurs when the low beam headlamps are switched on and/or when the engine is started, and not when the vehicle is in motion.
After the low beam headlamps have been switched off and back on, they again function correctly.
CAUSE
Current spikes caused by the xenon control unit in conjunction with a voltage drop in the vehicle electrical system
CORRECTION
Replace the affected xenon control unit. Refer to Repair Operations REP 63 12 860 or 63 12 861 (Replacing control unit for left or right xenon control unit).
