This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI 12 11 09 dated March 2009.

SUBJECT
[NEW] Service Action: Program Control Units (DME)

MODEL
F01, 02 with the N63 engine produced up to [NEW] 2/18/09

[NEW] SITUATION
An affected N63 vehicle may intermittently exhibit any of the following conditions, even though the vehicle contains a sufficient amount of fuel:

^ The engine is hard to start or may not start at all

^ The engine runs rough and lacks or loses power

^ Check control message "Engine Power Reduced"

The fault code "110001 - Cylinder injection cut-out, pressure too low in the high pressure system" may be stored in the DME.

[NEW] CAUSE
This can be caused by a buildup of vapor in the fuel delivery line to the high-pressure pumps.

[NEW] AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves F01 and F02 vehicles with N63 engines which were produced up to 2/18/2009.

In order to determine whether a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

The chassis number ranges listed below are only for informational purposes, and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

[NEW] PROCEDURE
Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.33.1 or later.

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to Centernet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.

[NEW] LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service Action has been assigned code number 537. After the vehicle has been checked and corrected, if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-352) and:

A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);

B. Punch out code number 537(2) printed on the label; and

C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.

[NEW] WARRANTY INFORMATION
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
