SUBJECT
Service Action: Program the KAFAS Control Unit
MODEL
F01, F02 (7 Series)
F07 (5 Series Gran Turismo)
SITUATION
Some of the driver assistance systems, such as Lane Departure Warning and High-beam Assistant, may not operate at the required performance level. The customer may feel that the sensitivity of these systems is either too high or too low.
CAUSE
Software in the KAFAS Control Unit
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves F01, F02, and F07 vehicles which were produced from 3/3/09 to 9/21/09.
In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this Service Action, first check the B-pillar label for code number 557. If code number 557 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 557 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action, or take no further action.
[NEW] PROCEDURE

^ Select "Driver Assistance" for Level 1.
^ Select "Lane Departure Warning" for Level 2.
^ Click on "Start search"
^ Select test plan "AW6650_WAS2 lane departure warning: fault patterns", and then click "Display".
^ Select any one of the complaints listed, and select "Continue".
^ Run through the test plan to completion in order to reset the KAFAS data.
2. Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.36.0 or later.
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 557. After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-366) and:
A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
B. Punch out code number 557 (2), printed on the label; and
C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
