SUBJECT
M3 with M DCT - Diagnosis for GWS Faults 5062 or 5139
MODEL
E90, E92, E93 with S65 and M DCT transmission up to 10/09 production
SITUATION
The customer may complain that the "N" (Neutral) symbol is being displayed in the Kombi and the message "Transmission in N, shift to P when engine is turned off" is displayed in the CC when the vehicle decelerates to a stop. In realty, the transmission stays engaged in a first or second gear and does not shifts to neutral, as indicated by the instrument cluster display.
The following faults are stored in the GWS shifter:
^ FC 5062 - "Fault in parking hook"
^ FC 5139 - "Unauthorized activation of the parking lock" with
^ FC A0B1 - "Selector lever implausible signal" stored in the CAS module.
CAUSE
Possible causes:
^ Incorrect installation of the parking lock Bowden cable/transmission locking lever; or
^ Defective GWS park lock
PROCEDURE
Perform all applicable ISTA test modules for the GWS gear position (test plans: B2360_DKPA_M3 and G2360_HAKPS).
1. [NEW] If the the faults are currently present and the applicable ISTA test modules have failed, then inspect the transmission park lever (1) for the excessive play.
2. [NEW] Check the M13 securing nut (2), which may cause an erroneous gear P position signal if not properly torqued (torque 13 Nm +/- 1 Nm).
If the Bowden cable is installed correctly or the GWS faults are currently not present and all applicable test plans did not identify a root cause, then replace the GWS shifter with the updated part (P/N 61 31 7 842 102).
