SUBJECT
RAD2+: Distorted Audio Output in All Modes
MODEL
E82, E88 (1 Series)
E89 (Z4)
E90, E91, E92, E93 (3 Series)
Produced between 9/2009 and 6/2010 with option 663 (Radio Professional), with or without option 676 (Hi-Fi Loudspeaker System)/option 677 (Professional Hi-Fi System)/option 688 (Harman-Kardon Surround Sound)/option 752 (Individual Audio System)
SITUATION
In all audio modes (radio, CD, AUX-In, etc.), the audio output is distorted. It is more noticeable with high bass and high audio volume settings.
There may also be an intermittent interference noise coming from the loudspeakers at low audio volume or when the radio is turned off
CAUSE
Audio settings in the RAD2+ (radio professional)
CORRECTION
1. Perform a vehicle test using the latest ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application) diagnostic software.
2. Diagnose any relevant faults that are stored by completing the test plans.
3. [NEW] Check which I-level the vehicle is currently on. If it is not I-level E8x-10-06-501, proceed with PROCEDURE 1. Otherwise follow PROCEDURE 2.
[NEW] PROCEDURE 1
Perform and complete the test plan "W6512_WA529 - BMW Professional radio: Distortion of loud music". The test plan can be accessed via the following path:
^ Select "Activities\Information Search\Function structure\Body\Audio, Video, Telephone, Navigation\Fault patterns\MalfunctionRAD2" and start search.
Reprogram the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.38.2 or higher.
IMPORTANT:
The Programming Validation Code presented at the end of the test plan must be submitted with the warranty claim.
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

[NEW] PROCEDURE 2
Perform and complete the test plan "Fault Profile 17: RAD2 Radio BMW Professional".
The test plan can be accessed via the following path:
^ Select "Activities\Information Search\Function structure\Body\Audio, Video, Telephone, Navigation (MOST ring)\Fault patterns\Fault Profile 17: RAD2 Radio BMW Professional" and start search.
^ In the test module, select "No. 304 - interference noise in all audio sources" and press "Next"
^ Follow the on-screen messages.
