SUBJECT
M57Y - MIL Is ON with DDE Zero-Quantity Adaptation Faults Stored

MODEL
E90 with the M57Y engine produced up to 5/31/2010

E70 with the M57Y engine produced up to 6/7/2010

SITUATION
When driving downhill (coasting off-throttle) at higher altitudes (above 3,300 feet) with cold external temperatures, the "MIL" or Service Engine Soon lamp comes on. The engine idle quality may then be somewhat erratic.

Any of the following zero-quantity adaptation faults are stored in the DDE:

^ 4AD5: Zero-quantity adaptation, injector, cylinder 1

^ 4AE5: Zero-quantity adaptation, injector, cylinder 2

^ 4AF5: Zero-quantity adaptation, injector, cylinder 3

^ 4B05: Zero-quantity adaptation, injector, cylinder 4

^ 4B15: Zero-quantity adaptation, injector, cylinder 5

^ 4B25: Zero-quantity adaptation, injector, cylinder 6

CAUSE
Unfavorable DDE software application

CORRECTION
Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.38.0 or a more recent version.

Vehicle integration (new): E89X-10-06-500 or later

Vehicle integration (new): E070-10-06-500 or later

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
