Exhaust System: Service and Repair

18 00 020 Removing And Installing Complete Exhaust System (N52K)

Special tools required:







WARNING:
Risk of burning.
Only perform this repair work after engine has cooled down.
Danger of injury.
Removal of the exhaust system must be carried out with the assistance of a second person.







Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove reinforcement plate from rear axle
- Remove left trailing link on rear axle







Support exhaust system with special tool 31 2 220.







Unscrew nuts (1).
Tightening torque 18 31 1AZ.
Remove holder (2).

Installation note:
Replace gaskets.
Replace self-locking nuts.







Unscrew screws (1) and (2).
Tightening torque 18 31 2AZ.







Spray lubricant 52 onto screw (1) and rubber mount.
Release screw (1) on rubber mount.
Tightening torque 18 31 3AZ.

Installation note:
Risk of damage to screw and thread of the retaining plate.
Join bolt (1) exactly. If necessary, brace rear silencer with a jack.







Slacken nut (1).
Tightening torque 18 31 4AZ.
Lower and remove exhaust system with assistance of a second person.







Installation note:
Check rubber mount for damage.
If necessary, replace damaged rubber mounts.
Check exhaust system for leak tightness.
