Quarter Window Glass: Adjustments

51 37 154 - Adjusting rear left or right side window

Special tools required:

Prerequisite:

- Vehicle must be standing on its wheels on a level floor
- Door window glass Adjustments correctly adjusted

Note:
Carry out adjustments with soft top opened and windows closed.

Ideal adjustment, transversal direction:

Side window (1) must be situated according to dimensions (A and B) in relation to body (2) and to connecting bracket (3).

Measuring points (X and Y) 10 mm from glass edge.

Area (X):

(A) = - 6.0 ± 0.5 mm
(B) = - 16.8 ± 0.5 mm
Area (Y):

(A) = - 9.8 ± 0.5 mm
(B) = - 11.8 ± 0.5 mm

Adjusting transversal direction:

Remove upper section of side trim panel Removing and Installing/Replacing Rear Left or Right Upper Side Trim Section.

Remove inner window cavity cover strip 51 37 265 Removing and Installing/Replacing Window Cavity Cover Strip For Door Window, Rear Left or Right.

Raise sound insulation (1) slightly and slacken three screws underneath.

Slacken screws (2) and adjust side window glass (5) to connecting bracket (3) and to body (4) (see Ideal adjustment, transversal direction).

Tightening torque 51 37 4AZ Specifications.

Ideal adjustment, longitudinal direction:

Side window glass (2) must be positioned at measurement (A) to door window glass (1).

Dimension (A) = 13 - 0.5 mm

Parallelism deviation ± 1 mm.

Door window glass (1) must underprotrude slightly (B) in relation to seal (3).

Dimension (B) = 1 ± 0.5 mm

Side window glass (2) must have a clean contour progression to door window glass (1).

Adjusting longitudinal direction:

Slacken hook screws (1) with special tool 51 3 240 .

Adjust X- and Z-directions by moving side window glass (2).

Tightening torque 51 37 2AZ Specifications.

Installation:
The tightening torque to be set 51 37 2AZ Specifications (MDE) is reduced when special tool 51 3 240 is used. Depending on the torque wrench used, this must be calculated according to the adjacent equation:

MDE = - Torque to be set
MDV = - Prescribed torque (without special tool)
lj = - Standard adjustment length with adjusting tool
l1 = - Effective length of torque wrench
l2 = - Inside dimension of adjusting tool
lw = - Inside dimension of insertion tool (here lw = 246 mm+l2)

Installation:
If screwing is performed from the inside of the door (removed door trim panel), the tightening torque to be set 51 37 2AZ Specifications (without special tool) must be observed.

Checking retraction depth:

- Close soft top.
- Open door window
- Attach special tool 51 3 080 to side window glass and secure if necessary
- Close side window completely
- Measure retraction depth

Note:
2 items of special tool 51 3 080 are required for adjustment of retraction depths.

Note:
Values serve only to check adjustment in the Z-direction.

Measure retraction depth (A) in areas (1 and 2).

Measurement (A):

(1) = - 8 ± 2 mm
(2) = - 10 ± 2 mm
If necessary, check or readjust settings on:

- Door window glass Adjustments
- Side window

Ideal adjustment, pretension:

Note:
Pretension can be checked with or without window cavity cover strip. Pretension is 1.0 mm greater with window cavity cover strip. Magnet in special tool 51 0 341 creates the correct door window glass pretension on the seal system for measurement. No force must be exerted on the door or door window glass during measurement.

Insert special tool 51 0 341 in rotary striker of door lock and close rotary striker manually. Carefully close door.

Measure gap (A) between side window glass (1) and inside edge of door window glass (2).

Note:
Measuring point 10 mm below top edge of window glass.

With window cavity cover strip fitted (front and rear):

A = 27 +1 mm

Without window cavity cover strip fitted (rear):

A = 26 +1 mm

Adjusting pretension:

Remove rear window cavity cover strip Service and Repair

Turn adjusting screw (1) with special tool 51 2 220 until correct pretension is reached.

Note:
With soft top closed, side window glass (2) must run correctly into convertible top seals (check only when window cavity cover strip fitted).

Checking adjustment:

Open door window and side window.

Fit rear window cavity cover strip Service and Repair.

Close both windows simultaneously and check run-in of side window glass to door window glass.

Close soft top.

Convertible top seals must not be damaged.

Check run-in of both windows in convertible top seals.
