SUBJECT
Interior Door Grab Handles - Peeling
MODEL
E90, E91 (3 Series) produced up to 4/2007
[NEW] E92, E93 (3 Series)
SITUATION
The soft touch painted surface finish on the interior door grab handle may peel off due to exposure to certain hand creams and sun-tanning lotions.
CORRECTION
The following procedure should only be carried out on the affected grab handle[s] that are confirmed to be peeling.
The interior grab handles this Service Information bulletin addresses are the:
^ Recessed grab handle on the driver's door panel, and the
^ Painted plastic (non-vinyl covered portion) grab handles on the front passenger's and both rear door panels (E90, E91).
In March 2007, the grab handles were changed from a soft touch painted surface to a molded in color material.
PROCEDURE
Left front door grab handle:
^ Replace the armrest insert per repair instruction RA 51 41 081.
Right front or rear door[s] grab handles:
^ Replace the complete door panel in accordance with repair instruction RA 51 41 001 (right front door) or RA 51 42 001 (rear doors).
NOTE:
The vinyl covered trim on the grab handle is not the peeling part referenced in this Service Information and it can be replaced separately per Repair Instruction RA 51 41 017.
