11 78 545 Removing and Installing/Replacing Monitor Sensor




11 78 545 - Replacing both lambda oxygen monitor sensors (N52K)





Special tools required:
- 11 4 260






Warning!
Scalding hazard!

Work should only be carried out on an exhaust system that has cooled down.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove underbody protection Removing and Installing/Replacing Rear Underbody Protection.
- Remove exhaust system Service and Repair.





Installation Note:
The threads of new lambda monitor sensors are already coated with Never Seez Compound (refer to BMW Parts Service).

If a lambda monitor sensor is to be reused, apply a thin and even coating of Never Seez Compound to the thread only.

The part of the lambda monitor sensor which projects into the exhaust system branch (sensor ceramics) must not be cleaned and not coated with lubricant.





Disconnect plug connection on lambda monitor sensor (1).

Release lambda monitor sensor (1) on exhaust manifold of cylinder nos. 1 to 3 with special tool 11 4 260.

Tightening torque 11 78 1AZ Specifications.

Installation Note:
Cable colour of lambda monitor sensor (1), cylinders nos. 1 to 3 = black.





Note:
To remove the lambda monitor sensor (1) on the exhaust manifold of cylinder nos. 4 to 6, it is necessary to remove the exhaust system Service and Repair.

Disconnect plug connection on lambda monitor sensor (1).

Release lambda monitor sensor (1) on exhaust manifold of cylinder nos. 4 to 6 with special tool 11 4 260.

Tightening torque 11 78 1AZ Specifications.

Installation Note:
Cable colour of lambda monitor sensor (1), cylinders nos. 4 to 6 = grey.





Assemble engine.

Check function of DME.
