34 01 09 (522) Modified procedure for replacing brake pads

BMW E6x, E8x, E9x, F01, F02 / MINI R5x

Situation:
Field observations have shown that there is overwhelmingly no need to mechanically clean the brake calliper holder and the brake pad guide surfaces. Mechanical cleaning of the brake pad guide surfaces can cause damage to the surface, leading to increased corrosion.

Procedure:
To prevent damage to the surface coating, refrain from mechanically cleaning the brake pad guide surfaces whenever possible. Rather, they should be cleaned with brake cleaner, BMW Part No. 83 19 2 154 780 and given a thin coating of brake pad paste, BMW Part No. 81 22 9 407 103.
These parts are available as service repair packs for specific vehicles.
Here, the vehicle identification number is to be entered in KSD2, the corresponding "Packages" button selected and the required job items selected in construction group 34.
The new vehicle-specific procedure is described in the revised repair instructions.
Time allowances have been revised to take account of the new repair methods and shall apply retrospectively.
