In BMW Professional telematics, the known sub-areas BMW Assist, BMW Online and the BMW assist systems combine to form a cohesive whole. Traffic information, navigation coordinates and data relevant to mobility inside and outside the vehicle are linked intelligently. The vehicle can be accessed from the outside via BMW TeleServices and various functions called up.
Depending on the country and service provider, BMW telematics services may have different contents. BMW Professional telematics must be initialized in the dealer organization before it can be used.

Functional networking of Professional telematics
The functional networking of the BMW Professional telematics is shown in the F30 by way of an example:

System functions
The system functions described below can be more or less comprehensive depending on equipment. Various services may deviate or be unavailable in the different national versions and are dependent on the service provider for GSM.

Enhanced emergency call
The following graphic shows the operation of the emergency call button on the roof function centre (FZD) and the representation of the data transfer in the central information display.

The enhanced emergency call function guarantees quick assistance in the event of an accident. The emergency call can be operated manually by pressing the emergency call button in order to organize assistance for other road users for example. The emergency call is activated in relation to the vehicle and transfers information on the accident severity and the number of injured people in the vehicle to the BMW Call Center. The vehicle location is identified with the transmission of the GPS signals and rescue services informed at the same time.

BMW Assist
The following graphic shows the selection of the information service, as well as the online service HRS Send to Car in the central information display by way of an example.

BMW Assist provides individual information and up-to-date information:
- Information service
- Enhanced emergency call
- Remote functions
- Google(TM) Send to Car
- HRS Send to Car (Hotel Reservation Service)
- My info
- My BMW
- Remote App
- Real Time Traffic Information

BMW Online
The following graphic shows the website of the Internet search in the central information display by way of an example.

With BMW Online it is possible to reach a maximum speed of up to 7 km/h (same for TV function) during a journey. Alternatively the display is effected with rear seat entertainment system on the high-resolution rear passenger compartment display. The operation is effected by the controller who assumes the functions of a traditional computer mouse.
BMW Online Service can be configured by the customer.
BMW Online includes the following services for example:
- Weather and stock market info
- Google industry search
- News and My news
- Park info

BMW Mobile Office
The following graphic shows the use of Office and e-mail in the central information display by way of an example.

The BMW Mobile Office functions enables personal e-mails to be sent and received in the vehicle. Here contacts can be imported from Outlook for example or external mailboxes can be set up via the BMW Online Internet portal.
Operation is then performed via the controller in a user-friendly manner.

BMW AppCenter
The following graphic shows a connection of the iPhone to the vehicle for the location determination of the user.

Using vehicle-specific Apps and Apps certified by the BMW Group, the range of functions of the vehicle can be enhanced significantly. For example, web radio or Facebook can be used safely and conveniently in the vehicle. An update to the App or the installation of another compatible App introduces new functions to the vehicle. No changes have to made to the vehicle.
BMW thus provides an up-to-date and configurable offering for all customer groups and markets. The applications can be selected in the menu via BMW Online or BMW Live and can be used immediately. Operation is effected by the controller or the multifunction steering wheel.

BMW Remote Access Service
Remote Access Services include remote door lock and remote door unlock for example. The vehicle can be locked or unlocked via BMW TeleServices. This service also supports the tracking of the vehicle in the event of theft.

Manual BMW TeleServices call
The following graphic shows the procedure of a BMW TeleServices call.

The BMW TeleServices call offers the customer the possibility to request a service appointment with his trusted BMW Service authorized workshop directly from his vehicle. For example, when a tire change is required. The BMW TeleServices call is shown in the Integrated Service Processes Application (ISPA). The customer then receives the call-back from his BMW Service authorized workshop. The BMW Service authorized workshop can optimally prepare for the upcoming service appointment and order or reserve possible parts in good time.

Automatic BMW TeleServices call
The BMW TeleServices call is still based on the Condition Based Service (CBS). As soon as the sensors detect service requirements with operating fluids or wear components, for example engine oil or brake pads, the vehicle automatically activates a BMW TeleServices call. The service data is transmitted to the trusted BMW Service authorized workshop and displayed with the Integrated Service Processes Application (ISPA). Then the dealer contacts the customer to arrange a service appointment. The BMW Service authorized workshop can optimally prepare for upcoming service appointments and order the required parts in good time. The capacities in the area of service advice and the workshop can thus be better planned.

BMW TeleServices diagnosis including BMW TeleServices help
It is possible for the customer to contact the BMW Group Mobile Service via BMW services or directly from the Check Control message.
Using the BMW TeleServices diagnosis the relevant vehicle information is transmitted to the BMW Group Mobile Service. The employee of the BMW Group Mobile Service explains the vehicle condition to the customer on the telephone and suggests appropriate measures. Individual malfunctions in the vehicle can thus be corrected via remote access thanks to the BMW TeleServices help.
The trusted BMW Service authorized workshop is automatically informed of the malfunction in the vehicle via an action call or info call (in ISPA).
This function is not available in all national-market versions.

BMW TeleServices call with integration in Check Control message
The following graphic shows the procedure of a BMW TeleServices call from a Check Control message.

Breakdown-related or technical faults in the vehicle are displayed via Check Control messages in the instrument cluster (KOMBI) and in the central information display. The driver is thus informed of this fault. Subject to the impairment, Check Control messages can be divided into the following categories: driver information, workshop information and breakdown information
In the event of a breakdown the driver receives the option of either selecting BMW Group Mobile Service or a voice call with the BMW Service authorized workshop from the Check Control message.
This way the customer can quickly and simply transfer the information to the BMW Group Mobile Service Call Center or the BMW service organization.

BMW Teleservice Report
In the case of the BMW TeleServices Report it is possible to send all current vehicle data on the basis of marginal conditions determined beforehand. The marginal conditions can be based on temporal elements, mileage/km or event-related. The data obtained by means of a BMW TeleServices Report is filed centrally at BMW.
This data can then be analyzed by the responsible development departments and the technical support departments of BMW AG.
Technical problems can thus be identified quicker. The necessary measures for fault elimination can be introduced early and in a comprehensive manner.
In the event of a special problem, the technical support of the responsible dealer organization can be informed thereof immediately.

BMW Teleservice Battery Guard
If the state of charge of the battery is decreasing critically, and certain additional marginal conditions are satisfied, a BMW TeleServices Battery Guard Call is automatically activated. This is sent via a SMS text message or e-mail to the customer or the responsible dealer.
Prerequisites for use:
- Vehicles from 03/2011
- Valid BMW ConnectedDrive contract

The function is currently available in the following vehicles:
- F25 Vehicles from 03/2011
- F2x vehicles from 09/2011
- F3x vehicles from 02/2012

BMW Teleservice Update
The following graphic shows the update procedure using a USB stick and the menu guidance in car information display.

With the installation of the telematics control unit, the customer will be able to update the software of a system component (operation via menu in the central information display). To do this, the necessary software must be downloaded from http://www.bmw.com/update and stored on a USB stick. Any conventional USB stick with sufficient storage capacity can be used. The software is then transferred from the USB stick to the telematics control unit via the USB audio interface (SA6FL) in the centre console and updated.
From 03/2011 this service was enhanced so that the data transfer of the software update for ConnectedDrive customers is possible via remote access. This means that software updates are loaded upon customer request via a mobile radio or mobile Internet to the vehicle without having to use other auxiliary materials such as a USB stick for example. A prerequisite for this, however, is an active BMW ConnectedDrive contract.

Notes for Service department
