Overview, petrol engines
Standard scopes
- Check the Check Control indicator
- Check the telltale and warning lights
- Reset the CBS indicator as per manufacturer's instructions
Engine oil
- Change engine oil and oil filter
- With every engine-oil change
- Replace microfilter
- If necessary, replace microfilter for recirculated air
- With every second engine-oil change
- Change spark plugs
- With every third engine-oil change
- Intake-air silencer: Replace air-filter element. If very dusty, shorten interval between changes accordingly.
- Handbrake
- Check function
Brakes, front
- Change brake pads and brake-pad sensors, clean recesses in callipers
- Brake discs
- Check surface and measure thickness
- If necessary: Replace
Brakes, rear
- Change brake pads and brake-pad sensors, clean recesses in callipers
- Brake discs
- Check surface and measure thickness
- If necessary: Replace
- Handbrake
- Check condition, brake-liner thickness and operation
- If necessary: Replace
Brake fluid
- Change brake fluid
Vehicle Check (when carrying out a service, remember that the engine-oil indicator has to be reset before the Vehicle Check is reset)
- Diagnosis short test
- Check horn, headlight flasher and hazard warning lights
- Check instrument lighting and display-panel lighting, check heater fan
- Check lights
- Seat belts: Check condition of belt straps, operation of reel mechanisms, belt locks, belt buckles
- Check windscreen wiper and washer system (except cavities)
- Body panels: Check for corrosion (except cavities)
- Tyres: Check tread depth, wear pattern, external condition, pressures + if necessary, correct (including spare wheel)
- Battery
- Test battery
- If necessary: Recharge battery
- Steering-fluid reservoir: Check fluid level
- Check coolant level and concentration; top up and correct as necessary.
- Windscreen washer system: Check fluid level; top up if necessary
- Brake lines and connections: Check for leaks and damage and check that positioning is correct
- Underbody including all visible parts: Check for damage, leaks, corrosion
- Steering components: Check for freedom from play, check for leaks, damage and wear
- Check roadworthiness (test drive)
