SUBJECT
Service Action: Check Electric Fan and Replace If Necessary
MODEL
E83, E63 and E64 vehicles produced from 04/12/2010 to 05/27/2010
SITUATION
An internal device defect may cause the electric fan not to run under certain operating conditions, even when required.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves E83, E63 and E64 vehicles which were produced from 04/12/2010 to 05/27/2010.
In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this Service Action, first check the B-pillar label for code number 572. If code number 572 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 572 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
CORRECTION
Check the serial number on the electric fan and replace the fan if necessary.
PROCEDURE
Check the serial number on the electric cooling fan. To do this, use a mirror and a lamp to read the 8-digit serial number on the back of the electric fan (see graphic) and compare it against the list of serial numbers of faulty electric fans attached.
Note:
If it is not possible to read the number clearly using a mirror, remove the electric fan to check the number. See Repair Instruction REP 17 11 035 Removing and installing/replacing fan cowl with electric fan.
Replace the fan if the serial number on the electric fan matches one of the numbers on the attached serial number list.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 572. After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-380) and:
A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
B. Punch out code number 572 (2), printed on the label; and
C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
