72 12 060 - Removing and installing/replacing left or right head airbag





Warning!

Incorrect handling can activate airbag and cause injury.
A damaged head airbag must be replaced.
A damaged head airbag exhibits an impaired protective function and in extreme cases loses its protective function altogether.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Disconnect battery negative lead 61 20 900 Disconnecting and Connecting Battery Negative Lead
- Remove roofliner 51 44 013 Removing and Installing/Replacing Roofliner (Version With Panorama Sunroof)
- Follow instructions 72 12 ... Unlocking/Locking Airbag Plug Connections for unlocking and locking airbag plug connection

Installation summary, retaining elements, head airbag:













Important!
When removing head airbag, do not damage
- Head airbag
- Windshield
- Retaining clips
- Trim panels





Release screw (1) on A-pillar.
Tightening torque 72 12 2AZ 72 12 Airbag Modules.
Release retaining screws (2).
Tightening torque 72 12 5AZ 72 12 Airbag Modules.
Remove deformation plate (3).





Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 72 12 2AZ 72 12 Airbag Modules.

Installation Note:
Folding pack is under tab washer.





Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 72 12 2AZ 72 12 Airbag Modules.





Unlock and disconnect 72 12 ... Unlocking/Locking Airbag Plug Connections plug (3) for gas generator (2).
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 72 12 04AZ 72 12 Airbag Modules.
Remove gas generator (2) in direction of arrow.

Installation Note:
Gas generator is coded against incorrect installation.
