SUBJECT
Disconnecting the JBBF, Causes Permanent Damage to the Rear Power Distribution Box

E71, E72 (X6)
SITUATION
Electrically disconnecting the JBBF (Junction Box), and in particular connector X14270 (see attachment) with the battery not disconnected, causes permanent damage to the rear power distribution box.
The following vehicle functions are affected:
^ All CIC functions such as radio, navigation, CID display
^ PDC (Park Distance Control) sound output (if CIC-fitted)
^ Top-Hi-Fi system
^ TCU (Telematics Control Unit) functions
^ Eject box
^ Comfort Access
^ Trailer operation
^ Hybrid operation (E72)
CAUSE
Disconnecting the JBBF causes an undefined ground reference, which damages the 30g-f relay in the rear power distribution box.
INFORMATION
IMPORTANT:
Disconnect the vehicle battery before removing the plug connectors from the JBBF. Refer to Repair Instruction REP 61 13 050.
