Cracks in Headlamp Lens Cover

SITUATION
Fine cracks are visible in the headlamp lens covers.

CAUSE
Stress cracks in the headlamp housing lens cover

CORRECTION

Check if the cracks in the affected headlamp can be attributed to external influences, such as a stone impact. This type of damage is not to be claimed under warranty.

The cracks which appear due to stress in the lens cover are very fine, and can often be found in the lower area of the headlamp. Refer to the attachment for typical examples of stress cracks.

If the cracks in the customer vehicle are as shown in the attachment, replace both left and right headlamps with updated parts that have a modified lens cover and strengthened headlamp housing.

Control modules and bulbs from the faulty headlamps must be removed and installed on the new parts. For the repair instructions, refer to REP 63 12 015 and 63 12 017.
